Questions? Email us at brilliant bengal at gmail dot com Please tell us a little about your household and why you are interested in a bengal. We accept phone calls by appointment.
Caveat: Please understand that we receive many daily inquiries, most of which are not serious. We prioritize emails from people who we perceive to be serious about adoption. Emails stating “Price?” are generally not returned.
Wait List Types: We currently maintain two wait lists, paid and unpaid. Kittens are offered first to breeders, then to the paid list, then to the unpaid list. We keep a small paid wait-list, and guarantee to offer those individuals kittens within six months. After satisfying the paid list, we typically alert the unpaid wait list as a group before advertising specific kittens. The unpaid list entails no obligation for either party; it’s simply a contact list/ advance notice list. To join either list complete a quick Interview Request Form on our contact page.
Qualifications: Adopters must demonstrate their ability to afford ownership, to provide a suitable home, and embrace bengal antics. Bengals do best with regular interaction and on a meat based diet (not kibble.)
Re-homing fees: Pet kittens are $1000-1500; rescues/ retired adults are less. Fees are subject to change except when solidified via a formal agreement.
Pricing Structure: Our adoption fees help offset our actual operating costs. Expenses include human grade meat, supplements, spays and neuters, shots, vet exams, prescription flea prevention, occasional medications, cat shows and travel, registration fees, toys, breeding cats, and donations to rescue/ animal welfare groups. Our food alone exceeds $3,000 per year.
Deposits: Approved adopters who have completed an application and successfully interviewed may join our paid wait list for $300. We sometimes have kittens available to the unpaid list/ general public. After interviewing, people in this group may reserve a specific kitten for a $300 deposit. The deposit is applied to the re-homing fee. All deposits are NONREFUNDABLE and NONTRANSFERABLE except in the event that Brilliantbengal cancels the adoption. The full balance is due by or at adoption.
Shipping Policy: We do not ship cats as cargo. We personally deliver kittens within a reasonable distance free of charge. Non-local adopters may travel to Central Virginia to collect their new pet, meet us at an East Coast cat show, or arrange a representative to collect the cat. If we have previously met the adopter in person, we are willing to work with adopter-hired flight nannies (possibly in the realm of $500).
International Adoptions: Sorry, no international adoptions at this time.
Cattery Visits: We do not offer “tours”. Newborn, pre-vaccination kittens are susceptible to parasites and disease. Prospective adopters are welcome to “see” our facilities via photos or videos and to meet us in person at a cat show. We will arrange visits with approved adopters who have placed a deposit. Such visits are typically limited to specific kittens for sanitation reasons.
Breeding Rights: Please contact us if you seek a breeding animal. Our website content applies only to pet adoptions. All our breeders are TICA registered. Some are dual registered with CFA. We currently show only with TICA and all titles refer to TICA.
Ongoing support: We are happy to field occasional questions from adopters. However, we have full time jobs and we cannot provide extensive support throughout an animal’s life. We have priced our kittens accordingly. Adopters are expected to purchase pet insurance and to seek out veterinary or behavioral help for their pets as required. Adopters desiring extensive support are encouraged to identify a professional or stay-at-home breeder; we can provider referrals to such breeders.
